Burn restrictions are back this Sunday

As winter melts away and we inch closer to spring, it’s time for Nova Scotians to get ready for the return of seasonal burn restrictions. It might sound silly with snow still on the ground but there are still risks as the sun gets stronger and things get warmer and drier!

Whether you’re planning a backyard fire pit, clearing brush, or doing property clean‑up, it’s important to know that burn restrictions run from March 15 to October 15 across Nova Scotia. During that period, daily updates determine whether burning is allowed, restricted, or outright banned depending on conditions.

Dry spells can also trigger full province‑wide burn bans, like the one introduced last July that stayed in effect until October 15, the official end of wildfire season.

✔️ What you should do now:

  • Bookmark your local burn status page
  • Check restrictions before lighting any fire
  • When burning is allowed, never leave your fire unattended, and ensure it’s fully extinguished before walking away.
  • We’ll keep you updated on-air throught the season.
