Canso spaceport one step closer to reality

Canso is one step closer to having the country’s first commercial spaceport.

Maritime Launch Services‘ environmental assessment has been approved by officials with the province’s Department of Environment.

The approval comes with a number of conditions.

Steve Matier, the president of MLS, tells The Hawk it’s nothing they weren’t expecting.

“The processes, procedures, evaluations, planning, design- all the kinds of things we’re planning to do to operate the spaceport anyway- are what they’re asking for.”

Matier says the support of members of the community was key to MLS’s decision to build in Canso.

He says environmental approval clears the way for them to work on design and development, infrastructure planning, and lease negotiations with the lands and forestry officials.
