A report by the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission of Nova Scotia recommended adding the Town and County of Antigonish to the Cape Breton-Canso riding.
While the town would prefer to stay in their current riding of Central Nova, due to their proximity of Pictou County, Town of Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher says they are willing to partner with whoever their representative is, as long as they share the priorities of the federal government. Boucher says she has met with Cape Breton Canso MP Mike Kelloway and believes that he is aware of the needs of Antigonish and hopes to be able to work with him on federal initiatives.
The goal of adjusting electoral boundaries is to bring the populations of Nova Scotia’s electoral districts within a closer range. The report was tabled in the House of Commons for review and a final decision is expected to be made sometime in the new year.
