The Cape Breton Exhibition Grounds is getting $3.2 million dollars in upgrades.
It will improve the roof, electrical systems, washroom, kitchen areas, fencing, foundations, drainage and more.
The changes will also let the facility host larger events and all year round.
“The contributions of all three levels of government ensure the long-term sustainability of the exhibition grounds, which is an important piece of event infrastructure, not only on the Northside, but for the entire Cape Breton Regional Municipality,” said Donald MacNeil, chair of the Cape Breton Exhibition Society.
All three levels of government are contributing to the project, including:
- $1.3 million from the provincial government
- $800,000 from the federal government
- and $800,000 from the municipal government
The Cape Breton Exhibition Society will also contribute $325,000.
CBRM Mayor Cecil Clarke says the grounds hold a special place in the community’s history.
“This investment will not only preserve a long-standing local tradition, but also create new opportunities to host larger events and evolve into a year-round venue that supports community gatherings, local businesses and the next generation of Cape Breton traditions,” said Clarke.
