The senior climatologist at Environment Canada says it was an active winter, which made it feel worse than it actually was.
Winter officially left- and spring arrived- early Friday.
Dave Phillips says we had a milder winter than usual, but we also had more weather systems than normal.
Phillips tells The Hawk winter storms were an even mix of rain and snow.
“There were moments where it was just a little bit of variety kind of weather,” he says. “That’s what made it different, even though the total amount of precipitation- snow- was not record-breaking, it was not alarming.”
Phillips says snowfall was up a little, but- together with rain- it only made up between 80 and 90 per cent of the season’s average precipitation.
He says there were a few cold days, but the Quad Counties didn’t have any below -20, when normally we’d have eight.
Phillips says it will likely be remembered as an active winter rather than a bad one.
