Community Healthcare Conversations Held in Port Hawkesbury and Inverness

Community Healthcare Conversations were held in Inverness and Port Hawkesbury on Friday to inform residents about the work being conducted by the province to improve healthcare. MLA Michelle Thompson Minister of Health and Wellness was in attendance and was one of the presenters at the event. “When we formed government, we went out and spoke to healthcare workers about what they felt was necessary to improve and address the challenges in healthcare. Says Thompson. “From that we built, “Action for Health” which is our strategic plan. We feel it’s very important that we go to communities to hear what their challenges are.”

Some in attendance shared their concerns about the healthcare system as well as their personal experiences with the system. Some people had to wait a long time for an ambulance, and some had trouble accessing healthcare workers.

Strait Richmond Hospital has suffered staffing shortages and the province plans to address this by working with local recruiters to bring more healthcare workers to work in the Quad Counties.
