Officials with the province’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal say most work for a project on the Canso Causeway swing bridge has been completed.
Andrew MacPherson, the project engineer, says the bulk of the work was expected to be completed by the end of October, but they added some minor work that’s yet to be done.
He says it’s not critical, but they’ve identified some things to work on during the winter.
MacPherson tells The Hawk there shouldn’t be much, if any, impact on traffic.
“If we had to close a lane or something, we’ll try to put a notice out just that there would be a lane closure,” he says. “(There’s) nothing that will really impact traffic for a great amount of time- I’m not even sure that there is anything at the moment that really would.”
MacPherson says a lot of work has been done for the original project- including sandblasting and new protective coating on the structure, as well as other upgrades to operate the programmable logic controller (PLC), which opens and closes the bridge on-command.
