Eskasoni man charged with aggravated assault after RCMP find victim unconscious on a trail

A 23-year-old Eskasoni man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being assaulted on a trail near Shore Road on Friday morning.

At around 10 a.m., officers responded to reports of an unconscious man on the trail. They learned that he had been assaulted by a 24-year-old man who then fled the scene. No weapon was used in the assault, but the victim was taken to hospital by lifeflight.

Later than day, at around 12:40 p.m., RCMP officers were able to safely arrest the suspect at a home on Yarrow Lane. The man was transported to the Eskasoni Detachment where he was held in custody pending further investigation.

The suspect was later released on conditions and will be charged with Aggravated Assault. The man will appear in Eskasoni Provincial Court on September 5, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
