Community comfort centre’s played an important role in providing comfort and shelter during Hurricane Fiona.
That’s why The Province of Nova Scotia is putting $4 million dollars towards the Community Generator program, a program introduced after the storm. The demand for the new generator fund was high and the funding was increased to meet the demand.
Another $500,000 will also be put aside to support three community rinks:
-$370,000 to replace the ice plant at the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Arena in Thorburn, Pictou County.
-$100,000 to replace the ice chiller at the Shelburne County Area
-$33,500 for emergency repairs at the Parrsboro Lions Arena and Community Centre
Randy Palmer, Director of District 13 Recreation and Planning Commission, who owns and operates the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Arena would like to thank the provincial government for recognizing the importance of the area to the residents of Pictou East.
Minister Pat Dunn says they want to make sure that centre’s across the province are well equipped to support their communities.
