The Federal Government announced they will fund the installation of 660 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers around Nova Scotia.
West Hant MP Kody Blois made the announcement in Wolfville where he said it comes as part of the nation’s ongoing strategy to adopt zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), ultimately contributing to the national target of all vehicles sales being ZEV by 2035.
“Today’s investment is an important one for ensuring access to reliable EV charging infrastructure outside of major urban centers. I know the investment will help contribute to the further uptake of zero-emission vehicles,” said Blois.
All of 660 new chargers being installed are level 2 chargers which are more powerful than the chargers typically provided for at-home use at the time of purchase.
Specific locations are not yet available but most will be installed at multi-unit apartment buildings.
The total cost of the project is $3.1 million.
The lion’s share of the installations will be done by the Polycorp Group of Companies who will install 634 chargers at nine multi-unit residential buildings across the province.
The other 26 chargers will be installed at different types of locations where the public can access them and will be installed by 292 Main Street Developments Ltd.
According to figures released from the province in January 2023, there are a little over 200 publicly available EV chargers currently in the province.
All the chargers are expected to be installed by December 2024.
