The president of a local fishing association says they’ll end their season a few days later than planned.
The season for many lobster fishers in the Quad Counties was supposed to start May 1.
Jordan MacDougall, the president of the Inverness South Fishermen’s Association, tells The Hawk the weather delayed their start.
“We’re usually the end of the month- (the) end of June we’re done,” he says. “Because of our delay at the start, we got the additional three days at the end.”
MacDougall says prices are higher in 2021.
He says they’ve been steady since the season started.
“We were anywhere from $3.75 to $5 (in 2020),” he says. “To go to $8 was a nice surprise.”
MacDougall says processors and buyers found new markets for lobster in 2020.
He says that could be why prices are higher this time around.
