Great white shark detected off Richmond County, Cape Breton

A great white shark has been detected off Richmond County.

‘Jason’ is a 500 pound, 9 foot long sub-adult shark.

He was tagged off Mahone Bay on July 16, and his latest ping had him off the coast of Isle Madame just after midnight on Monday.

OCEARCH says their science team collaborated with the Tancook Islands Marine team and the University of Windsor to tag and release the great white.

The sharks tend to have a summer and fall residency in Atlantic Canada.
