Group helping people suffering from life threatening illnesses holds first fundraiser

There’s a new group focused on supporting people with life threatening illnesses in Richmond Co.

Its inaugural fundraiser is today, a 5k fun run.

President Chuck Boudreau says the Pay it Forward Angel Fund Society aims to raise money to help people in Louisdale and Isle Madame.

Boudreau tells The Hawk he had worked with the Relay For Life but was looking for a way to help locally.

“The money we raised goes off the Canadian Cancer Society,” he says. “Yes, people who have cancer benefit from that, but a lot of people were making comment that they’d love to see some of the money stay in the community to support local people directly.”

Boudreau says they want to provide things like gas and meal cards to make life a little easier.

He says they’re already getting incredible volunteers.

“We’ve created a database of the local volunteers and we have about 25 on there so far,” he says. “Most people who are on that list say, ‘whatever you need,’ and that’s the level of volunteerism.”

He says the 5k fun run, and the 3k walk, are by donation and get underway at 1 p.m. in Arichat.

Boudreau says they have begun fundraising and hope to begin supporting people with life threatening illnesses in January.

Chuck Boudreau is a part-time employee of The Hawk.
