Group marching across causeway for woman killed by police officer

The Canso Causeway will be blocked for a demonstration at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association President Annie Bernard-Daisley says there will be a march across the causeway as part of a National Day of Peaceful Protest for Chantel Moore.

The Indigenous woman was shot and killed by a New Brunswick police officer during a wellness check.

Bernard-Daisley says says it’s unacceptable the Edmundston Police Officer has not faced any charges related to the death and is back to work.

She says RCMP will conduct traffic control for the march and demonstrators are allowing emergency vehicles to pass.

RCMP Public Information Officer Cpl. Lisa Croteau says officers will be there “to ensure order and public safety.”
