Harts Bridge Replacement Moves to Next Phase

Inverness MLA and Deputy Premier Allan MacMaster announced today that an important milestone in the replacement of the Harts Bridge in Margaree has been reached, following the rewarding of the final phase of the contract to Zutphen Contractors in Port Hood.

The next phase involves the design and construction of the concrete abutments for the replacement bridge. Work is expected to start soon and continue into the winter, with the installation of the bridge deck to follow.

The old bridge and its support structure were removed this summer, while armour stone and a temporary bridge were installed to serve residents while the replacement project resumed. A two-lane bridge deck has already been purchased and it will be installed once the abutments are put in place.

“The loss of Harts Bridge from a major storm last fall had a profound impact on local residents and businesses.” Says MacMaster. “They lost their connection to the rest of the community, neighbours, and their customers. Getting a replacement bridge was a top priority of mine and the government.”

The PC Government is still committed to road maintenance in all areas of Nova Scotia.
