Inverness Co. funds 6 seats at local women’s leadership school

A local school for women in government has gotten support from another area municipality.

At Thursday’s regular council meeting in Inverness, councillors approved funding for six seats for women from their area to attend the Leadership School for Women in Port Hawkesbury.

Afterward, Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie told The Hawk, it’s an effort to bring balance to local municipal and band councils.

“I would like to think of it as a balance, trying to have a balance of men and women sitting on councils,” she says. “I think equality is already there, equity is there, I think balance is what we’re searching for.”

MacQuarrie said she’s looking forward to seeing how many women who attend the conference run for local councils.
