Inverness Co. warden says completion of water system upgrades imminent

The warden of Inverness Co. says a boil order in Judique could be lifted any day.

Judique water customers are in the midst of their third boil water order in the last 14 months; it started in December.

The first lasted nearly two months- from Jan. 2018 to March 2018; the second, which lasted less than a month, was lifted in Nov. 2018.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie, the municipality’s warden, tells The Hawk the system requires major infrastructure upgrades, and they want to get it right before they lift the latest order.

“Rather than take the boil order off, and then put it back on again when there’s torpidity, it’s best to have everything done,” she says. “People are encouraged to boil the water for safe water- it’s a continuing saga.”

MacQuarrie says completion of the work is imminent.

She says one Judique resident she spoke to was understandably frustrated, but also patient and positive at the same time.

“This person said to me ‘Well, you know, we still have water’,” she says. “There were some communities in the last couple weeks that the water level had gone down.”

MacQuarrie says the hope is there will not be another interruption once the latest work is done.
