Islanders hand out year-end awards

The Cape Breton West Islanders have presented their annual awards.

Team officials held their year-end banquet in Port Hood Friday night; Regan Spears was the guest speaker for the event.

Spears is a former Islander who currently plays for the X-Men.

Darren Waterman was named the Islanders’ most valuable player, Matthew Raike was playoff MVP, and Kenzie MacPhail earned the rookie of the year award; a full list of award winners can be found below.

Unsung Hero- Luke Hadley
Top Defensive Player- Dave Matthews
Top Defence- Neil MacLean

Playoff MVP- Matthew Raike
Most Valuable Player- Darren Waterman
Islanders Scholarship Award- Jason Johnson
