Leeside Society in Port Hawkesbury adds a dog to their staff

Leeside Society has a new staff member named Darwin who fills the roll of accredited Facility Support Dog.

Darwin is a 2 year old Labrador/Retriever and a recent graduate from Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides in Oakville, Ontario, and is the first accredited FSD to work in a domestic violence shelter here in Nova Scotia, and the only accredited FSD based in our province at this time.

Darwin works with Leeside Society supporting women and children experiencing trauma. Though Darwin’s main job at this time is working within the shelter, they hope to expand his role in the future to utilize the training and accreditation he has to support victims in court, work with police, and offer support after critical incidents within communities on behalf of Leeside Society.

You are invited to meet Darwin in person on August 18th at Pet Valu in Port Hawkesbury from 1-3pm. You can also learn more about Leeside Society and its services.
