Local MLA touts spending on rural roads

A local MLA said recently announced spending on rural roads shows the new PC government’s commitment to improving rural transportation.

$32.5 million dollars was announced for pavement repair, ditching, gravelling, and brush cutting Monday.

Allan MacMaster, Finance Minister and Inverness MLA, said it’s about time.

“For the past 12 years as MLA for Inverness, the condition of local roads has been among the top concerns of residents,” he said. “I have been urging government for more than a decade to spend more on these roads because they badly need it.”

MacMaster said he wanted to act as quickly as possible, now that he’s a member of the governing party.

He said this is new money.

“Not funds that are being diverted from one badly needed area to another,” he said. “After so many years of neglect throughout the province, our Government is doing something to help rural roads.”

MacMaster said the money will be spent on the improvements in this fiscal year.
