A singer-songwriter from Port Hawkesbury says he was moved to produce his latest project after the tragic events in the province.
A gunman killed 22 people in a weekend rampage that started in Portapique, Colchester Co. late Saturday; it ended when the shooter was killed by police in Enfield late Sunday morning.
Steve MacIntyre says he wrote “Too Small a Town” with his wife, Robyn Chisholm.
MacIntyre told The Hawk Morning Show they’re not trying to bring attention to themselves- they just want to provide some comfort as people grieve.
“You’re a songwriter, and this is what songwriters do,” he said. “We put it out there in the hopes that people would enjoy it, and that maybe it would help them in some way too.”
MacIntyre said it took two or three hours to write and record the song.
He said it was a difficult song to write.
“I think you kind of separate yourself from it a little bit when you’re writing it,” he said. “I’ve written sad songs before- I don’t know, you kind of distance yourself from it, and it allows you to both create and grieve at the same time.”
MacIntyre and Chisholm released the song on Facebook Tuesday night; you can see the video below.
