Man charged after Amherst explosions

A man faces several charges after two explosions rocked Amherst

Brian Stephen MacDonald, 46, of Amherst is charged with three offences, including making an explosive device and detonating an improvised explosive device with the intent to cause an explosion.

Police in Amherst say the first explosion was reported Monday night; the second took place in the town early Wednesday.

They say in both cases, officers found debris from a “detonated device”; they also found an explosive device at a nearby park which had not detonated.

Police say no one was hurt in any of the incidents, and there was minimal property damage.

MacDonald, who was remanded into custody, is scheduled to return to court for a bail hearing Tuesday.
