Man charged in Inverness Co. drug bust receives condition discharge

A man who pleaded guilty in relation to a drug bust in Port Hawkesbury has been sentenced.

Avery John Sutherland, 23, of Antigonish was charged with a single count of possession for the purpose of trafficking after a Reeves St. traffic stop in January.

He elected a judge-only trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in April; he was scheduled for a preliminary inquiry in September, but instead entered a guilty plea.

Sutherland had a sentencing hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Monday; he received 12 months’ probation and a conditional discharge, which means he’ll receive a full discharge if he successful completes his probation.
