Man facing impaired driving charges after speeding more than 100 km/h in Cape Breton

A 20-year-old man from Barra Head is facing impaired driving charges after trying to avoid a traffic stop.

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services say it was October 16 around 10 p.m., when officers tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 4 in Irish Cove going more 185 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A few minutes later, the driver ran to a nearby home east of Big Pond after his car flipped off the highway.

The suspect was arrested shortly after and failed a breathalyzer.

He will appear in court in December.
