Mobile Primary Healthcare Clinic Coming to StFX

More Nova Scotians will receive primary healthcare services as a new mobile clinic begins moving around the province. Minister of Health and Wellness Michelle Thompson says the global shortage of healthcare professionals has required the province to look at nontraditional approaches for delivering healthcare while they work to recruit more healthcare workers. These clinics will ensure thousands more Nova Scotians have access to care. A mobile clinic was set up in Syndey to serve patents in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona and more then 300 people visited the clinic.

A mobile clinic will be coming to StFX this weekend to provide care for students, many of whom are not permanent residents and don’t qualify for the Need a Family Practice Registry or VirtualCareNS. Appointments are required and the clinic will be held at the Charles V Keating Centre on Saturday from 11AM until 8PM and Sunday from 10AM until 5PM. The mobile clinic has an exam room and medical equipment, but it does not provide treatment for urgent or life threating emergencies. The clinic can help patients with injuries such as muscle pain and illnesses like the flu and they can assist with prescription refills or renewals.

“We have a long history of partnering with Nova Scotia Health to provide many healthcare initiatives for StFX students. says Margaret McKinnon StFX Director of Health, Consulting and Accessible learning. “These collaborations have led to improved continuity of care for students and have been invaluable in building relationships with our Nova Scotia Health colleagues. We’re excited to partner with them once again, which will offer a much-needed boost to our limited capacity for providing primary health care to our students.”

The clinic is being offered through Nova Scotia Healths Innovation Hub and more information can be found at: Mobile Primary Care Clinics (last updated Nov 2, 2022) | Nova Scotia Health Authority (nshealth.ca)
