A Moncton man is facing a slew of charges after trying to flee from the Mounties on Cape Breton over the weekend.
Officers began tracking a vehicle travelling at high speeds in the Sydney area on Saturday evening but police weren’t able to follow it safely.
Numerous reports were made about a dangerous driver in a Mazda CX5 with New Brunswick plates.
The vehicle was reported stolen from the Moncton area on May 17.
After evading police for more than an hour, officers were eventually able to deploy a spike belt to stop the vehicle on Highway 104 in the St. Peter’s area.
The man was arrested without incident but a hatchet was found between the front seats of the vehicle.
Jordan Maxime Arsenault, 28, faces the following charges:
Flight from Police – 2 counts
Dangerous Driving – 2 counts
Failure to Comply with Undertaking Condition – 2 counts
Failure to Comply with Probation Order – 2 counts
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Arsenault remains in custody and will appear in Port Hawkesbury court on Tuesday.
He is expected to face additional provincial charges under the Motor Vehicle Act and charges related to the pandemic under the Health Protection Act and Emergency Measures Act.
