MP Kelloway congratulates Cape Bretoner on NHL debut

Cape Breton MP Mike Kelloway took a moment in the House of Commons to celebrate goaltender Colton Ellis, who recently made his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres.

Kelloway said Ellis, who’s from River Dennys, Cape Breton, “turned aside 26 shots, earned his first NHL win, and was named the first star of the game” in Buffalo’s 4-2 victory over Detroit.

He told Parliament that Ellis’s rise from local rinks to the NHL “speaks to his incredible determination and talent — and to the community that’s been behind him since day one.”

Kelloway added that Ellis is showing young athletes across Cape Breton that “anything is possible,” extending congratulations on behalf of fans and families across the island.
