MP Mike Kelloway Working With Community Groups to Fix Housing Issues

Cape Breton-Canso MP Mike Kelloway took the time to discuss affordable housing options with community organizations in the Inverness area.

Many people that wish to move to Inverness County and the surrounding areas are often unable to do so due to the lack of affordable housing.

The goal is to continue working with Quad County community groups going forward that are interested in developing housing using government programs that can assist them. One program available is called the Co Investment Fund that provides funds to construct affordable housing projects.

About half a dozen of these groups in Inverness County are interested in working with the Federal Government to develop affordable and accessible housing units. The interested groups are both not for profit and for profit.

It has been a challenge to convince housing developers to visit the area and to convince them that building affordable housing is economically beneficially in the region.

Kelloway believes the provincial government has a role to play when addressing these housing issues and they have indicated that they will be a strong collaborator to create affordable housing for those in need and for people that want to move to the Quad Countries and work.

Kelloway wants people to know that housing is not just an urban issue it’s a Canadian challenge. He will inform people about new housing programs once they become available.
