Emergency management planning is a big priority for The Municipality of the County of Richmond, and Steve Marcellus has been leading the way as the Emergency Management Coordinator since last fall. Warden Amanda Mombourquette says she is super excited to have an EMC in place as Marcellus brings a great set of qualifications and enthusiasm for the job.
“We’re looking forward to him being proactively engaged on the emergency management side but also on the fire services side.” stated Mobourquette. “There is a lot of work for us to do making sure emergency management planning is done in an age friendly way so all segments of the population are considered when doing this planning, we didn’t take too long to stand up our emergency management centre when Hurricane Fiona hit, we we’re fortunate during that disaster but it’s not to say that we are going to be that fortunate in every emergency, so we need to do a better job with emergency management planning, comfort centres would be a part of the emergency management plan.”
Having an EMC has been on the radar for the municipality for a long time, and they hope to make this position permanent.
