NDP candidate says she wants to connect people and politics

Cape Breton-Canso’s NDP candidate says she’s running because she wants to connect politics with people.

Laurie Suitor says that’s what the NDP represents.

Suitor tells The Hawk she’s concerned about the decline of the country’s healthcare system.

“I’m seeing that eroded, and I’m seeing the impacts of that in the everyday lives of almost everyone I come in contact with; that for me is something worth fighting for,” she says. “I believe the NDP still has that role to play; that we can put on the table, and really affect change, those things that are critical for people.”

Suitor says, despite healthcare being a provincial responsibly, the federal government has an obligation to provide enough funding and planning support so that everyone has access to healthcare.
