NDP leader Claudia Chender visits Quad Counties

In preparation for the return of the legislature, Nova Scotia’s NDP Leader Claudia Chender has been visiting various communities across the province to listen to the concerns from residents.

She visited the Quad Counties last week and held a question-and-answer session at the library in Antigonish. The event had a good turnout and some of the issues brought to the table include, the cost of living, healthcare, and affordable housing. Afterwards, she paid a visit to the Antigonish Womans Centre where she learned about their plans for transitional housing.

Her next stop was St Peters where she met with the Warden of Richmond County to discuss challenges and opportunities in the region. Chender says there are some exciting economic development opportunities coming to the Strait Area especially through the hydrogen industry and the jobs that could be created. She wants to emphasize that if more jobs are created, affordable housing and healthcare accommodations need to be put in place to ensure the workers stay in the area.

Chender said it was nice to talk with residents in the Quad Counties and left with a sense that there are challenges but still lots of great opportunities.

She also took the time to visit the CBRM and is also planning to visit Hants County before parliament resumes.
