New Provincial Park Designations in Antigonish County

Two protected Antigonish County areas will be designated as provincial parks. Dunns Beach and Monks Head provide recreational opportunities for tourists and visitors, and they offer sanctuaries for endangered birds.

“I am proud to say that these designations will ensure the protection of biodiversity values and enhance the department’s ability to manage these lands as natural environment parks.” stated Tory Rushton Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables. “Provincial parks offer excellent opportunities for recreation, education, research, tourism, and the enjoyment of nature.”

The designation of Monks Head and Dunns Beach and provincial parks is part of the provinces goal of protecting 20 percent of Nova Scotia’s land and water mass by 2030. Dunns Beach Provincial Park covers around 16.8 hectares of crown land, and Monks Head Provincial Park will cover 129 hectares of crown land.
