No safety violations after woman found dead in Walmart oven, says labour department

More than a year after a woman died in a Halifax Walmart, the labour department has found no safety violations in the case.

It was Oct. 19, 2024, when the remains of 19-year-old Gursimran Kaur were found by her mother inside the walk-in bakery oven.

The store was closed for months and eventually, the oven was removed while the store was renovated.

Halifax police later determined the case was not suspicious.

After a long investigation, the labour department says the store and the oven met the safety requirements.

They say they could use those findings to prevent other similar incidents in the future.

Neither the police nor the department has officially revealed her cause of death.

More to come…
