Nursing home underway in Antigonish

There are developments for the new nursing home being built in Antigonish.

The RK MacDonald Nursing Home’s Board of Directors Chair, Camilla Benoit tells our newsroom since ground-breaking ceremony in June, there has been great progress in excavation of the property.

“Formwork and rebar has been ongoing since mid-August with concrete pours occurring weekly,” she says.

The construction of the elevator shaft is ongoing.

Also, materials are arriving on site to begin underground site services in the parking lot and roadways in the coming weeks.

They are hosting their annual general meeting Thursday, September 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home.

At the meeting, the Project Manager, Karrie Spears from the Collier Project Group will provide an update on the construction phase.

The meeting will also highlight the tremendous work being done and acknowledge the Board, senior leadership and staff accomplishments over the past year and stakeholders including The Sisters of St Martha, the Town and the County.

“Many initiatives are ongoing like accreditation framework, strategic plan development, recruitment & retention, OH&S, quality improvement plan [and] collaborating relationships with the Foundation Resident and Family Council,” says Benoit.

The organization’s website is redesigned to provide easier access to anyone wishing to find various programs that are available at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home.

The new nursing home is expected to be completed in early April 2028.
