Guysborough officials say a new landfill project is underway.
Councillors awarded the roughly $3 million contract for the construction of cell #5 at their municipal landfill to reps with Nova Construction during April’s regular municipal council meeting.
Vernon Pitts, the warden of the municipality, says things are expected to wrap up by the fall.
After May’s regular meeting Wednesday, Vernon Pitts said work started a few days ago.
“They floated equipment in the first of this week,” he said. “There’s people on site there now.”
Pitts said they won’t move ahead with a new compost facility at their landfill until they hear back on funding.
He said they’re waiting on word from their counterparts with the other levels of government regarding their funding applications for that project, which is expected to cost between $1.5 and $1.8 million.
