Pfizer Bivalent COVID 19 Vaccine Now Available for School Aged Children

Parents and guardians in Nova Scotia can now book Pfizers Bivalent COVID 19 vaccine as a booster dose for children aged 5 to 11.

It is the only Bivalent vaccine currently authorized in Canada as a booster dose for this age group and offers strong protection against both the Omicron variant and the original strains.

For most children in Nova Scotia, the recommended interval between the last dose of the primary vaccine series and booster doses is 168 days (the primary series is the first two doses for most children,) but children that are moderately to severely immunocompromised are eligible for a shortened interval of 120 days since their last dose of their primary series.

Children six months and older can also safely receive the COVID vaccine before, after or at the same time they are receiving other vaccines. The province has adopted the recommendations of the National Advisory Committee on the use of these COVID Booster shots.

Appointments can be booked over the phone by calling 1-833-797-7772 Monday to Friday from 7AM until 7PM and on weekends from 10AM to 6PM. You can also book appointments online: NS Vaccine Booking Page (canimmunize.ca)
