In an exclusive interview with Acadia Broadcasting, Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre praised the courage of the Nova Scotia Legislature who earlier this week voted unanimously to pass a motion calling on all Nova Scotian members of parliament (regardless of affiliation) to vote against this year’s carbon tax increase.
“I commend them for voting in the interests of Nova Scotians,” said Polievre. “Unfortunately at the federal level, there’s only one party standing up against Trudeau’s carbon tax… and that’s the Conservative Party,”.
In our interview with Polievre, he also discussed his upcoming non-confidence vote which is scheduled to take place Thursday night, unless the Liberals back down from this year’s planned carbon tax hike.
The Liberals have given no indication they intend to do so, with the tax set to increase by about three cents on April 1 or 3.3 cents on gas and 2.9 cents per cubic metre on natural gas.
That means the non-confidence vote will likely be presented during Thursday evening’s legislative session, however, it is expected to fail with the Liberal-NDP coalition having a combined 181 seats, with 169 needed for a majority vote.
