The Town of Port Hawkesbury conducted several maintenance projects over the past few months.
During the summer months the town installed lights in the tennis court and security cameras at fountain park.
Work was done to prepare the ice rink for the winter months, the ice was put in last month and repairs were done on the board structures. The rink will also be getting a new Zamboni that is set to be delivered by Mid November.
A contract was awarded to conduct renovations to the community’s food bank. That contract was awarded to Blackstone Construction, and the work is underway. Blackstone Construction was also awarded with a contract to make accessibility improvements to the ACCESS Ability program. ACCESS Ability parking was increased at Granville Street and at Sunset Park and Fountain Park.
“We are still actively involved in capitol construction with the implementation of the active transportation, we are also in the design phase of further active transportation projects as well, the creation of active transportation along Granville Street and the waterfront.” Says Town CEO Terry Doyle. “We are also working on the design of an active transportation system that will link Tamarack Subdivision with Tamarack Education Centre to provide a safe way for children to get to school.”
Doyle acknowledged the hard work conducted by 11 summer students hired this summer, and they had a great experience. Going forward the town plans to install electric vehicle charging stations once the equipment is delivered.
