The Raising the Villages group held a gathering at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre earlier this week. Group Member Jim Mustard says it’s a learning organization that works with communities to find out how they can provide more programs and services that support the health and well-being of residents.
Representatives from various community service providers in the area attended to discuss the services they offer and the obstacles they are facing. “What we need is core funding to continue the work we do and expand.” says Mustard. “We learned about some promising initiatives, and we looked at how to organize ourselves to become advocates for what the province should be doing to alleviate stresses in society.”
Access to social services and programs that provide mental health support was affected by the pandemic and Raising the Villages hopes to remedy this problem by continuing to work with communities to determine what they need.
