RCMP arrest 21 after cannabis raids, Mi’kmaw communities plan protests

Twenty-one people are facing charges after raids at 13 cannabis stores.

Southwest Nova RCMP say there were searches in Lunenburg, Queens, Annapolis and Kings counties.

Well over 100 kilograms of dried cannabis, nearly 200 kilograms of edibles, unstamped tobacco, firearms, cash and seven sheds were seized.

Supt. Jason Popik says organized crime groups are exploiting communities with illegal sales.

Meanwhile, the Micmac Rights Association are adopting an action plan to counter the RCMP.

There will be a protest on March 10 in Dartmouth, and a 111 kilometre march is planned for June 21.

The march will be led by a 15-year-old Mi’kmaw boy who they say was traumatized during an RCMP raid.
