RCMP Arrest Armed Robber in Digby

RCMP in Digby has laid charges relating to an armed robbery following an incident that took place early Tuesday morning.

The Mounties say that a 29-year-old Digby man entered a gas station on Highway 303 in Conway around 2:30 a.m., where he told the cashier he was armed and demanded cash and cigarettes.

The suspect then came around the counter and grabbed the cash and cigarettes himself.

Shortly after, while still at the scene an RCMP officer arrived and attempted to intervene. The suspect attempted to disarm the RCMP officer, however, the officer was able to prevent him from doing so, after successfully deploying a conducted energy weapon.

The suspect was then arrested and taken into custody.

Neither the RCMP officer or the suspect sustained any serious injuries.

The accused now faces charges which include;

  • Robbery;
  • Attempt to Disarm a Police Officer;
  • Resisting Arrest;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon;
  • Disguise with Intent;
  • Intimidation;
  • Breach of Probation

The suspect has been scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon..
