Tonight, is Halloween, a time to have fun but also a time to exercise caution.
Corporal Chris Marshall with the RCMP recommends that trick or treaters wear reflective material and to carry a flashlight or glowstick so that they remain visible in the dark. It’s also recommended to wear face paint or make up instead of a mask so that your vision is not obstructed.
Trick or treaters should follow a planned route and they should be accompanied by a buddy or guardian. Planning your journey ahead of time can be useful to help your child find their way home if they get lost.
The excitement of Halloween could mean that some kids might forget the street rules, therefore its worthwhile to go over street safety with your children before you head out.
Motorists also need to be mindful of the increase in pedestrians this evening. Be aware of your surroundings, drive sober, pay attention to the road, and drive slowly. If you have to drive in a residential area plan extra time to get to your destination as there will be a lot of pedestrians in these areas.
