RCMP want you to be on the lookout for ‘debit scammers.’
Officers say there are two people of interest in ‘pickpocket’ and debit scams at stores in Antigonish and Port Hawkesbury.
Police say the fraudsters get debit PIN numbers by watching shoppers complete transactions, then use a distraction to switch the bank card in the card machine or steal it as they leave the store.
RCMP remind you to always cover the keypad while entering your PIN, avoid help from strangers, and to use tap or a digital wallet to pay.
