A crosswalk to remember Strait Region veterans

The Town of Port Hawkesbury announced a new crosswalk design to honour local veterans in time for Remembrance Day.

The red and white striped crosswalk will say, “Lest we forget” with a sign commemorating veterans from Port Hawkesbury and the Strait Region.

The decision was made at Council, Tuesday evening, however, the final design still needs to be approved by the Legion.

Improvements are also being discussed for the Remembrance Day ceremony.

“Ultimately with the goal to not have traffic [noise] interrupting the ceremony, which has been something that many people asked for after every ceremony,” says Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton. “We are hoping to seek a remedy to a longstanding issue.”

The Town is seeking approval to close Reeves Street around the cenotaph this year.

Ceremony details are expected from the Town soon.
