Residents get back to exercise at civic centre gym

The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Fitness Centre has reopened.

It closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

Port Hawkesbury Physical Activity Coordinator Corene Gillis-Dorey tells The Hawk Morning Show people are already taking full advantage.

“We’ve had a steady stream of people in and out… so we’re really pleased,” she says. “I was really pleased to come in first thing [in the] morning and then see so many members coming in bright and early.”

Gillis-Dorey says there are some new protocols because of COVID-19.

Masks are required until users begin their workouts. The facility is limited to 36 people at a time, 30 in the main downstairs gym, six on the upstairs circuit.

Yoga and circuit training classes are being offered, but registration is limited to ten participants.

The walking track is open.

The Fitness Centre is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, but closed for cleaning from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
