Some municipal councillors in Richmond Co. have raised concerns about how emergency response to Hurricane Dorian was handled in their districts.
Councillors said they weren’t happy with the response at September’s regular municipal council meeting Monday; they agreed to have Adam King, the municipality’s emergency management coordinator, come to council and answer their questions.
Two key issues they brought up were long-term comfort centres for extended outages and how municipal generators were deployed following the storm.
After, Brian Marchand, the warden of the municipality, said they want a better understanding of how they responded.
“Obviously there must have been some complaints, so we want to find out what was done, and see if there is any way we can aid the EMO director for future storms or future events,” he said. “We just wanted to make sure our EMO director is up to speed on all of this.”
Marchand said the goal is to improve their response for the next time.
