Richmond Liberal candidate says support for French key

Richmond’s newly announced provincial Liberal candidate says the riding deserves someone who will protect its unique language and culture.

Matt Haley was acclaimed by the riding’s Liberal members May 3.

Haley tells The Hawk the Acadian region requires special consideration from any would-be MLA.

“We have such a particular and special history and culture, and our Acadian and rural communities need to have a voice that can serve them in their language,” he says. “I think it’s very important that we have an MLA fluent in both English and French.”

Haley says he’s the right man for the job.

He says his almost decade of work with the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial makes him uniquely suited to understanding the needs of francophone residents.

“I think that I’ve got a good network, not only locally but provincially, when it comes to the French language and Acadian culture.”

Haley says his other priorities are improved access to healthcare, senior care, and doctor recruitment.
