Sentencing in largest-ever N.S. wildfire delayed until June 12

Sentencing for a man accused of starting the largest wildfire in Nova Scotia’s history has been delayed.

23-year-old Dalton Clark Stewart of Villagedale is now scheduled for a sentencing hearing on June 12 in Barrington.

The hearing was originally scheduled for last week.

He pleaded guilty last year to leaving a fire unattended, a charge under the Forests Act.

Stewart pleaded not guilty to two other charges, including lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission.

The Barrington Lake fire in 2023 burned dozens of homes and structures.
