Smell is back in Antigonish from sewage plant

An odour is back in Antigonish.

The Town says in a post on social media, because of hot weather and limited rain, the amount of oxygen in the lagoon at the sewage treatment plant has been reduced.

This means, there is once again a bad smell floating around town.

The sewage plant not only had sludge removed last fall but was approved for major upgrades in the spring to prevent the smell that comes around every year, from returning.

Short term and long-term solutions are being looked at, as well as temporary and permanent additions to the aerators.

In the meantime, cold water and deodorizer are being added to the lagoon to help bring the temperature down and get rid of the smell.
