The Province announced on Tuesday that contact tracing in schools will no longer take place.
The Strait Regional Centre for Education says that with enhanced safety measures in place, schools are the best place for students.
SRCE media advisor Jenna MaQueen had this to say in a statement to The Hawk:
“The best place for students to be is in school where they have continued access to learning and the supports and services they need for their emotional and mental well-being. As we transition to living with Covid-19 and as we shift our focus to the prevention of severe disease, we are implementing public health measures in school to support the safety of staff and students and to support public health efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 to protect those who are more vulnerable for severe disease and our health care system. Schools will have added layers of protection in place that will help minimize spread such as strict cohorting, no large assemblies, gatherings or events, no non-essential visitors, reminding families to keep students home when they’re sick and proper mask wearing. The impact of these changes should be minimal. More information will be shared with staff and families next week in advance of the return to school on Monday, January 10.”
Premier Tim Houston and Dr. Strang are set to hold an update on the provincial COVID situation today at two O’clock.
